Study: 800 Numbers Still Popular With AdvertisersDespite growth of the Internet over the past seven years, the use of toll-free phone numbers in television advertising continues to grow, indicating that the telephone remains a prevalent response tool, according to a recent study. The 2005 Toll-free Numbers in Television Advertising study, commissioned by 800response, concluded that 35 percent of all television commercials feature phone numbers, and 82 percent of those phone numbers are toll-free. Furthermore, 74 percent of the toll-free numbers in television ads use the 800 prefix. Of the 800 numbers, 61 percent are "vanity" numbers, meaning they spell out a word or company name.A similar study conducted in 1998 concluded that 24 percent of TV commercials displayed toll-free numbers. At that time, just 55 percent were vanity 800 numbers. The 2005 study of 5,524 television commercials from four networks in four major markets found that vanity 800 phone numbers are increasingly prevalent in today's television ads, up approximately 6 percent. The 800 prefix remains the leader as a direct response tool over 866, 877 and 888 prefixes. The study found that these prefixes come in far behind the 800 prefix for usage in television advertising at 6 percent, 8 percent and 12 percent respectively."Over the last seven years, advertisers continue to understand that using a unique and memorable mechanism in television advertisements increases their response rates," said Mitchell Knisbacher, president of 800response, a provider of vanity 800 numbers and toll-free service. "The two TV studies, over the past seven years, prove that 800 toll-free and vanity number usage in advertising is still strong, and growing. Advertisers continue to provide their customers with phone numbers so they can make contact with a live person, notwithstanding the spectacular growth of the Web."

5 Easy Ways To Get Your Creative Juices Going

5 Easy Ways To Get Your Creative Juices Going

Writing an article doesn't just mean putting down thoughts into words then typing and writing it. You have to capture the interest of your readers and get them to keep on reading. To send your message across you have to get the attention of the reader and have a firm grasp of their interest and pique their curiosity. The main ingredient in baking up an article is a large dose of creativity. While creativity may come natural to many people, some just gets into a block or something to that effect that can drive someone crazy. Many writers have literally torn their hair out when they get writers block and just can't seem to get their creative juices flowing. Putting words into images in the readers mind is an art. A clear and crisp depiction requires a certain flair that only creativity can provide. Similes and metaphors help a lot, but the way an article gets entwined word for word, sentence by sentence then paragraph by paragraph into a whole article develops the essence of the article. So just what do you have to do when nothing comes to mind? There is no surefire ways to get the perfect ideas but there are easy ways to get your creative juices flowing. No one can guarantee you of having the perfect mindset but many methods may aid you in achieving that state of mind. Here are five easy ways for that.1) Keep a diary or a journal with you always. Ideas can be triggered by anything you may hear, see, or smell. Your senses are your radar in finding great ideas. Write all of them into a journal and keep it with you for future reference. You may also write down anything that you have read or heard, someone's ideas could be used to develop your own ideas and this is not stealing. Remember that ideas and creativity can come from anywhere; it's the development of the idea that makes it unique.2) Relax and take time to sort things out. A jumbled mind cannot create any space for new ideas. Everyone must have a clear mind if one wishes to have their creativity in full speed. Get rid of all obstacles that can be a hindrance to your creativity. If you are bothered by something, you cannot force your mind to stay focused.Try to relax every time that you can and think about your experiences and interactions with others. Your experiences are what shape your mindset and your opinions which could be reflected on your writings. Try to discover yourself, find out what triggers your emotions. Discover what inspires you and what ticks you off. You can use these emotions to help you in expressing yourself and your ideas, with this you can grow creatively.3) Create a working place that can inspire your creativeness. Your working place can be quite a hindrance if it doesn't make you feel happy or relaxed. Creativity comes from being in a good state of mind and a messed up workplace that causes distraction won't be conducive in firing up your creative flow. Surround your working place with objects that makes you happy and relaxed. You may put up pictures, or scents, objects that inspire, or anything that can get your creativeness cranking. A clean and well organized workplace also rids of distractions and unwanted hindrances. With a good working place, you can work in peace and never notice the time pass by. 4) Set the mood. Setting the mood requires you to just go with the moment or to induce your self to feeling what makes your mind works best. Finding out what makes you tick could help you find ways to get your creative juices flowing. Set the pace and tempo for your mood and everything else will follow. There are many ways to set the mood. Some writers have been known to use alcohol, a little sip of wine to stir up the imagination. Some would like some mood music while others let the lighting of the environment create the mood. 5) Go on a getaway and just do something unlike crazy. Letting yourself go and have fun produces adrenaline that can make your imagination go wild. Take an adventure or a solemn hike. Whatever it is that is unusual from your daily routine can take the rut out of your schedule. In no time at all, your creativeness will make use of that experience and get your imagination to go on overdrive.

Advertising Techniques - That Your Moma Never Revealed

Advertising Techniques - That Your Moma Never Revealed

Okay, a couple of things need to be said before I get down to business. First, it is important to me that I try to practice what I preach as much as possible. This is not always the case and for that I am at times unhappy with myself. With that in mind, I am a person who believes in open communication. I dont like hidden agendas. I also believe in the goodness of people and try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Also, I believe that in order to believe in people, risks must be taken in order for mutual respect to have an opportunity to grow. With that in mind I am going to take a risk and hope that no one abuses it, but respects a goal of mine and tries not to undermine it. The goal: I want to invent a word and have it accepted into the Oxford English Dictionary. There are a few criteria that need to be met to successfully enter a word in the OED, which you can check on for yourself, but I think that I have my strategy and word all ready. What Im trusting is that what Im about to share will not be taken by someone else, thus supplanting a dream Ive had for a long time. Im going to tell you my idea and I hope that you appreciate it, but that it remains my idea to pursue and turn into a reality. One of the criteria for the OED is that a word with a similar definition does not exist. Or in other words, there must be need for the word. Thats tough, but I think I have it. The English language has no word that means A person or thing that is ones least preferred. A person or thing that is ones most hated. This is essentially the opposite of favorite. We can get the idea across, but we have no single word that encapsulates most hated with the efficiency that favorite has for most preferred or loved. The word I think can solve this linguistic gap is malrite. This surprises me, as languages tend to develop words that they need to express. It seems to me that in the history of English speaking countries there has been enough broad aggression and localized apathy, jealously and maliciousness to have a need to create this word. But, I began to doubt the need for such a word, until I began looking into online advertising techniques.Aside from my personal psychotic ranting on online advertising techniques, I wasnt really sure what the general public felt about the issue and I certainly wasnt sure if the industry itself gave any consideration to it. Then I ran across an article headlined The Most Hated Advertising Techniques. Wow, if there ever was reason to recharge my pursuit of malrite, I have found it. This was an article that looked into a study that examined peoples malrite aspects of online advertising. But, the whole thing played itself out awkwardly as it lacked an appropriate word to describe the disgust, disdain and hatred felt by the studys volunteers. This article indicated to me that the fact of the matter is that in life we all have our favorite and malrite things, and we need to be able to articulate that.

Boot Camp Short, Sharp Shock

The term boot camp can have a multitude of meanings, though through them all there remains a common theme hard work, and no talking back! Perhaps most frequently associated with the military, the phrase has been adopted by a variety of other organisations seeking to imbue their efforts with the same no-nonsense mentality, and as the popularity of boot camp type programs increases, it seems that a touch of discipline is what many of us need. The question of whether societal expectations have undergone a gross unleashing is not a new one, and it is a fairly well established tradition that any generation will lament the habits and preferences of the one that follows. It is arguably only in recent years, however, that criticisms of the current generations excesses have trickled down from above and younger people find themselves questioning their own choices. While debates rage on regarding our apparent unwillingness to assume responsibility for our actions, an increasing number of people are taking drastic action to change their lives for good by engaging in boot camps of various kinds. While one of the most notorious types of boot camp must remain the one to which parents send their errant teens, a huge number of these discipline driven programs are specifically designed for consenting adults who find themselves unable to deal with particular problems alone. Fat camps, for instance, are available for overweight people who have been unsuccessful in losing weight with solitary dieting. Employing the strict routines and rigorously filled timetables formerly associated with the military, these camps help those who may have been unable to help themselves. But do these kinds of programs really work? Some would argue that while immediate effects are certainly seen, the achievement of more long-term results requires something more. It could even be argued that rather than bypassing our blame-someone-else culture, these boot camps perpetuate this mindset by using what might be described as bully tactics to forcibly change the subjects lifestyle. And while behavioral therapy can be effective, can what was learned in the strict environment of boot camp really be translated into every day life? Most experts agree that boot camps are not a long-term solution, but rather a stepping-stone toward more permanent change. Providing a short, sharp shock, they deal out a quick reality check that can lead a person to seek out a more enduring plan for change. Boot camps are perhaps not the answer, but they are a good place to start looking for it.

Crazy about Packaging

Its the same old tissue, honey, it doesnt make a difference, ok? Its still going to work the same way, my exasperated husband hissed into my ear as I grabbed cartons after cartons of some designer tissue. DESIGNER TISSUE! Hah, can you even hear me say that? I cant believe I actually wrote designer tissue. So, yes, for a graphic designer and writer who knows all about the kind of effort one puts into packaging and branding products, I sure fell for it. All the hoopla. The shenanigans. The suck em in with good copy and fab color combo. Hey, I am still a consumer, remember that. I am entitled to fall for nice packaging, I have a prevailing right to be human. But they are so prettythe packaging. I swear! They have the nature lover packaging, the fruity packaging, the woman on the go packaging, and then they have the kids packaging. I grabbed 4 of each design packages and made a run for the counter with them with my screaming kids and exasperated husband running after me in slow motion. It was definitely a die-hard moment. You know, when the hero is running away from a bunch of wild bad men with machine guns, and theyre shooting at your feet or somethingand theres an explosion behind youand everything happens in ssslllloooowwwww mmmmooooottttttiiiioooonnnnn. Well, in this case, I was running for checkout with boxes of tissue paper with fancy packaging designs on them. If I didnt like the packaging designs so much, I would find it comical enough. But I am dead serious. In fact, I loved the packaging designs so much, after using up all the tissues in the boxes, I would cut out the designs and place it into my must keep for reference clear folder. I dont keep a lot of stuff in there because I am pretty selective about the designs that I like, but these packaging designs made the cut. They definitely did. You see, this is the kind of thing that happens when you put some effort into making your packaging design. Yeah, we all have this in the back of our heads. Hey, its PACKAGING! Its whats INSIDE that count. Theyre going to THROW the PACKAGING away. So, why spend so much money on the packaging? Maybe youre also thinking that the money should go towards developing better quality productsfor faster shipment optionsor maybe the money should go towards spending potential clients to expensive dinners in Italian restaurants. Its your call, really. But this is what I have to tell you, as a "graphic designer" and consumer. The more effort you put into designing your packaging, more customers will stop and take a look at your packaging or whats inside the packaging. Now, does it make sense for me to say now that when they stop and take notice of your packaging, your chance of getting them to buy your product increases? Exactly. You see, the role of packaging is to grab the consumers attention. And without an electrifying packaging, consumers are going to walk past the heaps and heaps of other competitor productsand yourswithout even knowing youre there! Your product is sitting there on a shelf, for goodness sake, and the only weapon you have is to have a nice packaging. Once they stop and take a look, youve won the first round. Think about it!
